Sustainability in the fashion industry – An Erasmus + Project
This school year, the Bilingo Campus participated in a very special project. In cooperation with the Social Science High School in Bolzano and with the support of the Erasmus + program, an intercultural exchange as well as an intensive examination of the fashion industry took place.
Erasmus+ is a funding program of the European Union and supports the educational and personal development of people in Europe. Discussed in English, German and Italian, the project’s theme focused on environmental sustainability and environmentally friendly behavior.
After the digital familiarization phase, our tenth grade students visited their project partners in Bolzano, where they were able to expand their intercultural and foreign language skills with their host families and excursions. During their stay, some of these excursions included guided tours, an impressive hike on the Alpe di Siusi in the Dolomites, which was then followed by an exuberant toboggan run that characterized their successful conclusion.
The fashion industry was the focus of the project and the objective was to sharpen the students’ perception of the environmental problems that are associated with it, and as result it strengthen their sense of responsibility. The project group went to look closely at the deforestation and child labor caused by the fashion industry. During their Cologne visit, the students went to a second-hand store and came up with great ideas for sustainable fashion designs. They were able to create and produce their own upcycling fashion collection. Finally, the project group presented a fashion show with commentary, in which all aspects of the project were showcased.
We would like to thank all participants for the implementation of this interesting and cooperative project.
